Our vision

At the Institute for Community Mental Health (ICMH)-Clinic, research, training and community service come together to improve lives today and shape the future of mental health care. Located at the University of Delaware, the ICMH-Clinic proudly serves as a hub where innovation meets compassion—advancing the science of psychology while responding to the real needs of our community.

What we do

The ICMH-Clinic provides high-quality, evidence-based and culturally responsive mental health care to individuals across the lifespan. We are committed to improving access to services—especially for underserved communities in Newark and surrounding areas.

Our services include:

  • Individual therapy for children, adolescents and adults.
  • Parent management training and caregiver-focused support.
  • Psychoeducational and diagnostic assessments.
  • Bilingual services (English/Spanish).

We tailor each treatment plan to meet the unique needs of our clients, integrating the latest research with compassionate, personalized care.

Our training model

The ICMH-Clinic is a teaching clinic that supports the development of future mental health professionals. We offer hands-on clinical training for trainees in undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs at the University of Delaware.

Under the close supervision of licensed psychologists, our graduate student clinicians:

  • Provide direct clinical services.
  • Participate in rigorous clinical supervision.
  • Learn to apply evidence-based assessment and therapy practices.
  • Contribute to clinical research and quality improvement projects.

This integrated training model ensures that the next generation of clinicians and researchers is well-prepared to deliver high-quality, effective and ethical mental health care.

Our commitment to serving the community

We believe that everyone deserves access to effective, compassionate mental health care. Our clinic is rooted in a deep commitment to providing science-based, culturally humble care. We strive to reduce barriers to care and provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all clients who walk through our doors.
