Richard Raw is a poet, hip hop musician and music producer. After years in the music industry, performing nationwide and building a vast collection of hip-hop and neo-soul music, Richard has found his niche, combining soul with hip-hop and invigorating, thought-provoking lyrics.

Richard is the Program Director of the hip-hop supplemental education program, Beyond Those Bars. He draws on his vast knowledge of the hip-hop art form and the variuos elements of hip hop culture to teach youth about everything from diversity, literacy skills and history to communication, confidence, and character building.

Leading Me (to Freedom)

Kingswood Community Center in Wilmington DE provided space for Richard Raw to work with kids attending the Center's summer camp. Students participated in lyrics writing and beat making workshops and professionally recorded an original song about the Underground Railroad in Delaware.

Students also participated in multiple group discussions about the Underground Railroad to help them understand their research. The song recording was conducted in class with a mobile recording studio where students were able to learn how to use recording equipment and software. They also ﬁlmed a music video to accompany the song.
