Artist-In-Residency program

The Artist-in-Residency (AiR) program fosters cultural exchange and promotes cultural understanding by providing multiple opportunities of engagement with the creative agency and social and healing practice of artists.

Artists are provided chances to explore their practices within a new community; share their talents, meet new people, develop their artistry, and build life experiences. Artists can draw upon UD's resources, critical faculty, and student body to develop, advance, and disseminate their work.

Social and healing practice in the arts  — often defined as collaborative, community-driven work that engages with social issues — has emerged as a powerful approach for artists confronting current political and social challenges.

Artist Projects

AiR related projects are designed to stimulate campus and the broader community and enable the UD community to experience the world as seen through the distinctive artistic eye of the artists.

These projects give students opportunities for artistic collaboration, exposure to working artists and strengthens programmatic ties among individual departments and programs.  and promotes engagement with community-based arts entities in the broader community that the University serves.

Artist Selection

Artists are mostly identified by faculty from individual departments. At times AiR will invite artists and, depending on their practice , identify departments and community organizations to partner with for the residency.
