Coming October 2026: A New, Streamlined UD Authentication Experience
June 25, 2026 Written by Frank Handschuh
In October 2026, the University of Delaware will transition to Microsoft as the University’s single sign-on platform. This update will simplify access to University services by providing a more consistent and secure sign-in experience across campus applications and systems.
To ensure a seamless transition to Microsoft single sign-on (SSO), all UD faculty and staff must be enrolled in Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Completing this in advance will help avoid access issues when the new login experience is introduced.
What Is Changing and Why?
The University currently uses multiple authentication systems to access applications and services. As part of an ongoing effort to enhance security and simplify the login experience, the University will be retiring two legacy authentication systems—CAS and Shibboleth—and moving to Microsoft as its single sign-on (SSO) platform.
Once the transition is complete, Microsoft will be the only login screen for University enterprise applications. This initiative enhances security, simplifies access management, and delivers a more consistent, streamlined login experience across University applications.
While the login experience will change, most users will continue to use their existing username and password.
