Honors Program students receive the General Honors Award in recognition of completing academic challenges and enrichment opportunities in their first two years at the University.

More than 400 students, family members, faculty and staff attended the ceremony.

“As part of the Homecoming festivities, it was particularly nice to celebrate students achieving the highest levels of academic success at the University," Michael Arnold, director of the Honors Program, said. “The ceremony also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions these students make to the broader mission of the University through their participation and leadership in a host of extracurricular organizations and service activities. The students and their family members, particularly their parents, enjoyed seeing that the University appreciates what these students have accomplished.”

In all, 345 students - or 77 percent of the Honors Class of 2012 -- were honored with the award, which requires that students in their first two years complete 18 credits of Honors coursework and have a minimum grade point average of 3.2.

Of this year's recipients, 77 percent have GPAs of 3.5 or higher, and seven students have 4.0 GPAs. Nearly 72 percent have earned more than the required 18 Honors credits in their first two years, and about 22 percent have earned 25 or more Honors credits. One student has earned 46 Honors credits in his first two years.
