Beth Mineo, director of CDS, and Marvin Williams, assistive technology specialist with the Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative (DATI), a CDS program, will share information about the vast array of visual assistive technologies -- ranging from simple, non-electronic items to computer-based tools -- that are available to enhance productivity, self-sufficiency and quality of life for individuals with full or partial vision loss.

The presenters will also review the impact that DATI's BOLD (Borrow-to-Own Low-vision Devices) Program has had on Delawareans with vision loss. The BOLD Program, made possible through support from the Tobin Foundation, enables Delawareans with visual impairments to access relatively low cost ($100 and under) devices following a trial use period to ensure that the product meets their needs.

The Lunch and Learn session will take place in Room 132A at the Center for Disabilities Studies, 461 Wyoming Road, Newark, from noon to 1 p.m. on April 11. It is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch. Water and cookies will be served.

Reservations are requested. Contact Michele Sands at [msands@udel.edu] or 302-831-3038 and indicate if you need an accommodation.

Future sessions Lunch and Learn sessions are planned for Monday, May 9, when the topic will be “Early Detection of Developmental Disabilities,” and Tuesday, June 7, when health care transitions will be discussed.
