Liaison of the quarter recognition is given to exemplary members of the University's Human Resources team.

Cathy Wu, Edward G. Jefferson Chair of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, said Phipps has contributed significantly to the Center for Bioinformatics and Computation Biology (CBCB) since its inception two years ago.

“Susan takes initiative and makes sound judgments,” Wu said. “She is dependable and always cheerful, even when facing difficult issues. Simply put, she is the best.”

Katherine Lakofsky, CBCB educational and outreach coordinator, said Phipps goes out of her way to answer questions and ensure that center staff members are aware of pertinent HR policies.

“Susan is extremely knowledgeable of HR policies and procedures,” Lakofsky said. “She is eager to assist staff members and is a valuable asset to the center.”

Surprised and honored at being named HR Liaison of the Quarter, Phipps said she enjoys the excitement, challenges and new opportunities to grow through her work at the center.

Phipps said she also appreciates the support of colleagues and friends at the center, as well as fellow HR liaisons who have shared their knowledge and experience.

“To the outside observer, the CBCB is a wonderfully multi-cultural environment but to me the primary cultures are those of teamwork, encouragement and support,” Phipps said. “I have grown more as an individual and a support person than in any other position during my 20 years of service at UD.”
