8:02 a.m., Jan. 25, 2011----Dana Herbert, a University of Delaware alumnus and an accomplished baker who is the owner of Desserts by Dana, has been named the winner of the TLC reality show Next Great Baker.
The final episode of the eight-week series, which featured Buddy Valastro of the popular TLC show Cake Boss as head judge, aired Monday evening.
As winner, Herbert earned a $50,000 prize and an opportunity to work with Valastro.
In addition to his own business, Herbert, a 1998 graduate of the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, is head chef of the Delaware River and Bay Authority.
Herbert said in an earlier UDaily article that he stumbled across the opportunity to be on the show while surfing the Internet.
