Newark Police investigate robbery at George Wilson Center

9:40 a.m., Feb. 7, 2011----Newark Police are investigating a street robbery that occurred around 10:25 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, at the George Wilson Center, 303 New London Rd., Newark.

The victim had just left a large private party at the center and was in the parking lot when a large fight broke out. The victim and others ran from the fight but returned to search for a friend. While walking back through the parking lot, the victim was approached by a man who displayed a semi-automatic handgun. About 10 to 20 others then surrounded the victim. The suspect removed the victim's cell phone from his jacket pocket and fled on foot, southbound on New London Road toward Main Street.

The suspect is described as approximately 16 to 17 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 130 to 150 pounds, with a thin build and wearing a black jacket and a black ski mask.

The 16-year-old victim was not injured.
