10:34 a.m., Aug. 25, 2010----After students move their bags, boxes and books into the residence halls, one of the first things they want to do is get online. To help students connect quickly and efficiently, staff from University of Delaware Information Technologies (IT) will again be bringing their expertise to the residence halls during move-in days.
“We'll have about 40 IT staff members and 20 IT student employees walking, biking and driving around campus during move-in days, helping students connect to our campus network and the Internet,” Carol Anderer, associate director, IT-Client Support and Services (CS&S), said.
IT staff will be based in four residence hall locations on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those locations are:
* Christiana Commons computing site;
* Dickinson C/D computing site;
* Harrington computing site; and
* Rodney A/B lounge.
“Directional signs displaying our 'Tech Help' logo on a blue background will guide students to our help locations,” Anderer said.
She added that, “It will also be easy for students to find us while we're moving about the campus because we'll all be wearing shirts that identify us as UD IT staff.”
CS&S staff will be wearing royal blue T-shirts with “Tech Help” printed across the back, and IT Network and System Services (NSS) staff will be wearing shirts identifying them as NSS employees.
The IT Help Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days to answer questions or direct students to an IT staff member who can help them. Students can get the quickest answers to their questions by visiting the IT website where solutions for many first day problems are outlined. Students can also contact the Help Center directly by calling (302) 831-6000 or sending an email to [consult@udel.edu].
“A visit to our TechQuest forums will allow students to post questions and get help from other students, as well as IT staff members,” Anderer said.
The IT website features links for new and returning students that direct them to the most up-to-date information on how to connect a computer to UD's network, download a free copy of McAfee's anti-virus software and securely set up a wireless router in a residence hall room.
