UD's Fulbright committee interviewed 10 applicants in 2009. Of that number, four students received Fulbright scholarships, as did two recent UD graduates, for research in Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia.

Those interested in serving on the panel should contact Lisa Chieffo, associate director of the Center for International Studies, at 831-2852 or [lchieffo@udel.edu] by Sept. 21.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.”

The program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by then-Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
