2:55 p.m., Oct. 21, 2009----The Research Institute for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences in the University of Delaware College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is inviting proposals from two or more departments that are interested in creating an “integrated semester” experience for either undergraduate or graduate students to enhance cross-disciplinary programming, innovative teaching collaborations and engagement at the graduate level and in the undergraduate curriculum.

The proposal should provide for co-enrollment in at least two three-credit courses and the coordination of special events for all of the students enrolled in these courses, including speakers, films, service learning or off-campus trips.

Proposals that support the college's commitment to diversity as a core educational value, as well as UD's Path to ProminenceTM core values and milestones, are especially welcome.

Research Institute applicants must propose, plan and stage at least one event or performance on campus related to the integrated semester proposal that is open to, and appropriate for, either the general public and/or faculty and students at other colleges and universities.

Proposals for up to $15,000 will be considered, and a detailed budget must be included with each application. Cost of benefits for personnel must be factored in at current rates, which are available at the UD Research Office Web site.

The deadline for proposals is 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16, and materials must be submitted electronically as a single PDF file to [CASResearchInstitute@art-sci.udel.edu]. Questions should be directed to your associate dean.

The mission of the newly established CAS Research Institute for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is to strengthen faculty research and creative activity, enhance its visibility, as well as its vertical integration into the curriculum, support initiatives involving multi-disciplinary research teams -- both within the University and with external partners -- and foster intellectual community.
