9:56 a.m., March 31, 2010----The University of Delaware Steel Band Festival will be held Saturday afternoon, April 24, on the grassy area between the Amy E. du Pont Music Building and the Roselle Center for the Arts.

In addition, a pair of evening concerts scheduled in conjunction with the festival are planned Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24.

The “Two Legends, Two Nights” concerts will feature Delaware Steel with jazz great Andy Narell and calypso legend David Rudder at 8 p.m., Friday, April 23, at the Baby Grand, 818 N. Market St., Wilmington, and also at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 24, in Mitchell Hall on the University of Delaware campus in Newark. Tickets are $25.

The April 23 concert is co-presented by the UD Department of Music and The Grand and the April 24 concert is co-sponsored by the Department of Music and UD's Institute for Global Studies.

The second annual UD Steel Band Festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. and will feature numerous steel bands from Ohio, Washington, D.C., Delaware, and Barbados.

Music will begin at 1 p.m., with Caribbean food available for purchase. Admission to the festival is free.
