9:39 a.m., March 23, 2010----Performance appraisals for all University of Delaware staff are due to the Office of Human Resources by Friday, April 30.
Employee appraisals have gone from a paper process to a Web-based system, which permits managers to learn if employees have started the process electronically, and to track where the performance appraisals are in the system.
The Web-based system will be “greener,” as Human Resources will not have to keep spreadsheets and thereby will use less paper in the process. In future years, the electronic system will help employees by pre-populating the major responsibilities and prior year goals sections of the form.
“This annual performance review should be part of the ongoing cycle of communications between employee and supervisor,” said J.J. Davis, UD vice president for administration, who added that “the electronic submission is intended to bolster the conversation between supervisor and employee.”
Anna Bloch, Human Resources and Payroll Systems administrator, said email notices will be sent to all employees and will include a link to the performance appraisal Web site, as well as a link for logging into the system.
The starting place will be the 2009 performance appraisal, from which employees can cut and paste responsibilities and goals from that Word document into the new system.
Bloch said Human Resources recommends that all appraisals be processed online so that the system can be used its full capacity with the advantage of having this year's responsibilities and goals pre-populated on the online version for 2011.
While individuals may use the Word document from 2009 during this one-year transition period, all performance appraisals will be done online in 2011.
“We definitely want to encourage people to use the online system, as the paper disadvantages the employee, the supervisor and Human Resources,” Bloch said. “The product being released this year is the first step in building a performance management system at UD. We hope to expand the management tools in the coming years to include manager reports and dashboard metrics as well as the performance appraisal system.”
Human Resources is holding daily training sessions on the online employee appraisal submission process. For more information, call Records Management at (302) 831-8677 or email [hr-appraisals@udel.edu].
