The award, offered by the Sakai Foundation to faculty using the Sakai collaboration and learning environment in their classes, honors successful pedagogical innovation and best practices in teaching and learning. The award is sponsored by IBM, with additional support from rSmart and John Wiley & Sons. Entries are due Monday, March 15.

Winners will receive a trip to the 11th Sakai Conference, June 14-17, 2010, in Denver, Colo., to give a featured presentation about their teaching with Sakai. All entries will become part of the OpenEdPractices.org repository of best teaching practices.

Fred Hofstetter, professor in the School of Education, received honorable mention in the 2008 competition for the Web portal he developed for the Educational Technology graduate programs.

According to Janet de Vry, IT Client Support & Services (IT-CS&S), “Every faculty member who submits an entry benefits because every submission becomes part of OpenEdPractice's searchable repository of good teaching practices using open source technology tools. Just having a class in the repository can increase a faculty member's visibility by promoting that faculty member's innovative use of technology in teaching.”

For more information about the award and the submission deadline, go to the Teaching with Sakai Innovation Award Web site or contact Mathieu Plourde, IT-CS&S, via email at [mathieu@udel.edu].
