2:23 p.m., Feb. 8, 2010----The University of Delaware has recently signed an agreement with Apple Computing to allow the installation of Apple software on all University-owned Apple computers. The terms of this agreement are similar to the terms of the Microsoft Campus Agreement that the University has had in place since 2007.

The Apple Education License Program allows the University to make the Mac Software Collection available for use on University-owned systems. Together, the Apple and Microsoft agreements reduce software costs to the University as a whole and relieve academic departments and administrative units of the need to carry the cost of individual software licenses on their budgets.

Under the terms of the Apple agreement, University faculty and staff may download the following software from the UDeploy Web site and install the software on any University-owned Apple computer:

  • Mac OS X operating system software
  • iLife multimedia suite, including iMovie, video editing; iPhoto, photo management; GarageBand, music composition and recording; and iWeb, Web site management
  • iWork productivity suite, including Keynote, presentation graphics; Numbers, spreadsheet, data organization, and chart creation; and Pages, word processing and page layout.

The license restricts installation of the software to only computers owned by the University and used by University faculty, staff and students. Personally owned computers are not eligible. Under this agreement, students may not download and install the software.

Faculty and staff will need to provide their UDelNet IDs and passwords to download the software from the UDeploy Web site.
