10:12 a.m., Aug. 26, 2009----Tsu-Wei Chou, Pierre S. du Pont Chair of Engineering at the University of Delaware, presented one of three plenary lectures at the 17th International Conference on Composite Materials (ICCM-17), held from July 27-31, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Chou's talk addressed advances in the science and technology of carbon nanotube composites.

More than 1,250 delegates from 28 countries attended the biennial conference, whose theme this year was “Composites: Contributing to the Solution to Global Climate Problems -- Greenness to Leanness.”

In addition to the plenary lecture, Chou co-authored a paper presented by Erik Thostenson, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UD, entitled “Vinyl-ester Nanocomposites for Damage Sensing in Naval Applications.”

Chou also presented a paper at the Kelly Symposium, held at ICCM-17 in honor of the 80th birthday of Anthony Kelly, Emeritus Professor and Distinguished Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Kelly and Chou have collaborated on composites research through UD's Center for Composite Materials since the 1970s, and Kelly was one of four inaugural winners of the University of Delaware Medal of Excellence in Composite Materials, which has been awarded to 29 scientists and engineers in the field of advanced materials since 1984.
