For more information and to register online, visit the Web page and scroll down to the information on the race.

In January, Krylow and Lulu Kaliher, two complex coordinators in the Office of Residence Life, wanted to organize a 5K with a philanthropic focus. After the earthquake in Haiti struck on Jan. 12, they decided that all proceeds from the race would benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

The Disaster Relief Fund allows the Red Cross to provide desperately needed immediate emergency assistance to victims of all disasters, small and large. The fund provides for free assistance not only to victims of major disasters like floods and earthquakes but also to smaller local disasters, like house fires.

Because the American Red Cross is not a government agency, it relies on the donations of private individuals and organizations to provide assistance to those affected by disasters.

All of the proceeds from the Race to Give Back 5K will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
