Volunteering as a Delaware Quality Award examiner contributes to making the state a quality place to live and work, as well as providing an invaluable professional development opportunity to individuals who serve.

The Delaware Quality Award utilizes the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria as the basis of its award program. The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence. It is based on the verified management practices of the most successful organizations in the world.

Delaware Quality Award examiners are given free training in the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria and how it is used to assess organizational performance. Examiners have the opportunity to evaluate organizations that submit applications and serve as a member of a team that conducts applicant assessment and a site visit. Examiners can also receive continuing education units (CEUs) for training and the examiner experience.

Delaware Quality Award examiner training in April and May includes a one-day orientation session for first and second year examiners and a two-day seminar with international quality expert, Mark L. Blazey.

Blazey is author of Insights into Performance Excellence (ASQ, 2009) and serves as the lead judge for the Baldrige-based U.S. Army Communities of Excellence Award, and the New York State, Vermont, Delaware and Aruba award programs.

Applications to join the Delaware Quality Award board of examiners, along with expectations and the training schedule, are available at this Web site, by calling the Delaware Quality Awards office at (302) 571-5239, or by sending e-mail to Mica Corradin at [corradin@udel.edu].
