12:30 p.m., Feb. 12, 2009----Cindy Munyan, administrative assistant in the University of Delaware's Department of Public Safety, has been named HR Liaison of the Quarter for the last quarter of 2008, a special honor that recognizes outstanding members of UD's human resources team.

A bouquet of red roses was delivered to her office and Munyan will receive a certificate for an upcoming human resources breakfast.

Munyan is responsible for such things as payroll, budgeting and vacation time for the department. She also is involved with new hires and helping them with paperwork and getting them launched.

“Public Safety is a 24/7 operation,” she said, “with different shifts and overtime involved so the payroll is more complex. Many of our employees are not on campus during normal working hours, and I try to get their questions answered and help them out.”

Munyan came to the UD in 2001 as a dispatcher for Public Safety but needed to work with more regular hours and so worked at positions with the Early Learning Center and later the Office of Judicial Affairs.

However, when her current job at Public Safety opened up, she applied and returned there. “The people and officers at Public Safety are great guys to work with,” she said.

Munyan has two daughters, Jessie and Mandy, who are students at the University of Delaware. Mandy is carrying on the family tradition and is currently a dispatcher at the Public Safety 911 center.

Yvonne Simpson, senior administrative assistant in Public Safety and Munyan's boss, nominated her as HR Liaison.

“We have 85 full-time employees and 120 to 150 student employees from police officers to parking cashiers and there is a lot of overtime so the payroll system is more complicated,” Simpson said. “Cindy has such good interpersonal skills and efficient processing skills and keeps everyone paid and happy, and we appreciate her good work.”
