2:05 p.m., April 28, 2009----University of Delaware graduate programs in engineering and education have been ranked in the 2010 edition of America's Best Graduate Schools, available online at [www.usnews.com/grad] and featured in the May U.S.News & World Report, which is now on sale.

UD's graduate program in chemical engineering is ranked 9th in the nation, tied with the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the College of Engineering is ranked 46th, tied with Case Western Reserve University and Washington University in St. Louis.

UD's School of Education in the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy, is ranked 35th, and UD is also featured in a chart on teacher education at the top education schools.

Also, UD's graduate program in criminology is ranked 16th for 2009. The program is in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice in the College of Arts and Sciences.

UD also is ranked 81st in the fine arts category, with the Master of Fine Arts program housed in the Department of Art in the College of Arts and Sciences.

"The University of Delaware is committed to achieving the highest levels of excellence in graduate education, and rankings such as these provide one indication of that commitment," Debra Hess Norris, vice provost for graduate and professional education at UD, said. "In addition to the select programs evaluated by U.S. News, UD is home to many graduate programs in other fields that are widely considered to be among the best in the nation."

The new guide also includes UD graduate programs that were ranked in previous years, including:

--Physical therapy, ranked at 4th in 2008;
--Public affairs, ranked at 41st, and the area of city management, ranked at 10th, in 2008; and
--Nursing, ranked at 72nd in 2007.

The 2010 America's Best Graduate Schools includes more than 1,500 graduate school programs nationwide
