What is your favorite memory from your time as an SNF Ithaca Student Leader so far?

My favorite memory would have to be moderating an event with Dr. Sally Nuamah. Dr. Nuamah was an SNF Ithaca Visiting Fellow in March, and I had the opportunity to moderate a conversation with Dr. Nuamah, along with Dr. Lauren Bailes from the School of Education and Dr. Kristi LeBeau from SNF Ithaca, on how mass school closures affect democracy. I've never had the chance to moderate a panel before, so it was such an incredible experience! As someone who is interested in education policy, I learned so much from the discussion and loved exploring that topic more. I felt extremely prepared and supported throughout the process, which made the entire event tremendously enjoyable.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

In the summer following graduation, I hope to join AmeriCorps to help communities around the world. I'm really passionate about foreign affairs and diplomacy, so I'm interested in working for an NGO in their government affairs sector and eventually becoming a Foreign Service Officer for the State Department. After this, I aim to work in government relations for a nonprofit organization. In the future, I would also love to work on another campaign. Overall, I'm eager to pursue a career in public service at the state, national, and international levels to support as many people as I can!

How has the SNF Ithaca Initiative helped you become a more effective and engaged citizen?

SNF Ithaca has taught me such valuable skills, such as facilitation and how to lead productive discussions with the intention of listening to learn. I've been able to approach difficult conversations in a variety of ways because I've been equipped with the tools to do so. I've learned the importance of meeting people where they are and approaching conversations with an open mind.
