What is your favorite memory from your time as an SNF Ithaca Student Leader so far?

The Student Leader Retreat, for sure! It was a bit daunting to spend two days with people that I didn't know, but it was amazing how fast we all clicked. I especially remember when we made s'mores by the fire and spent time getting to know each other and playing games. Building a foundation for this initiative alongside such a great group is something that I have carried with me all year, and I am so grateful to have such an amazing community!

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

After graduating, I hope to attend law school to pursue a career in public interest law. Ideally, I would like to practice health law and advocate for equitable access to care. Through this path, I hope to apply what I’ve learned with SNF Ithaca and in policy work to help shape legislation grounded in the lived experiences of those I’ve advocated for.

How has the SNF Ithaca Initiative helped you become a more effective and engaged citizen?

We're all human, and that's the most effective tool for civic engagement. While politics can sometimes seem robotic and impersonal, the SNF Ithaca Initiative demonstrated the importance of our shared connections and empathy. Learning to communicate and understand diverse perspectives, oftentimes on the spot, has pushed me to think critically and respond more thoughtfully.

What advice do you have for future students who want to grow as leaders and make a meaningful impact?

Always speak up! It can be a little intimidating to work with a new group of people, but it's important to keep a healthy channel of communication. Don't be afraid to say the wrong thing! Lean on your fellow student leaders and leadership team to create the best experience for yourself, but also for the entire campus with your bold ideas. Take risks -- that's how real growth occurs.

We're all human, and that's the most effective tool for civic engagement. While politics can sometimes seem robotic and impersonal, the SNF Ithaca Initiative demonstrated the importance of our shared connections and empathy.
