Awards
The National Association of Economic Educators has chosen Carlos Asarta, associate professor of economics and director of UD’s Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, as the winner of the 2016 Abbejean Kehler Technology Award. This award recognizes an individual who is instrumental in promoting the use of technology to improve the delivery of programs in economic education.
At the award presentation, Sue Owens of Economics Arkansas discussed Asarta’s Principles of Economics, McGraw-Hill’s first- ever product to be built online from the ground up, and his passion for research. Asarta, she said, exemplifies “innovative work and research in the use of technology to foster the teaching of economics.”
In a recent article on Asarta’s other achievements this year, Dean Bruce Weber of UD’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics said, “Lerner College is thriving because of its dedicated, path-breaking faculty, and Dr. Asarta is an ideal example we are proud of. The success and wide-reaching impact of Carlos’ work in economic education demonstrates how scholars at Lerner continue to shape the future of education in business and economics.”
