Opening and Closing Information

Spring Semester Closing

All campus residence halls will close on May 24, 2012 at 10:00 PM (unless you are a graduating senior). Please see the information below for complete details.

24 QUIET HOURS

24-Hour Quiet Hours begin at 8pm on Tuesday, May 15 and continue through 8am Friday, May 25. Please be respectful of others in your building and cooperative with your neighbors and staff if asked to quiet down. Please be aware that the staff will be referring noise violators through the Office of Student Conduct.

BUILDING CLOSING

Residence Halls will close at 10pm on Thursday, May 24. Unless you are participating in the Commencement exercises in a formal University role, or are a graduating senior, you MUST VACATE your residence hall within 24 hours of your last final. If your last final ends at 10pm on Thursday May 24, you may stay in the building until 10am on Friday,, May 25, but you must make arrangements to do so with your Residence Hall Coordinator/Hall Director no later than Monday, May 14. This includes graduating seniors and those participating in Commencement.


Graduating seniors and students working at commencement may remain in their rooms/apartments until 6pm on Saturday, May 26.

KEYS and ACCESS CARDS/FOBS

All keys and access cards/fobs must be returned to the location at times designated by the Residence Hall Coordinator/Hall Director, before you leave campus. You must return the access card/fob that was originally signed out to you. Access cards will be deactivated at 10pm on Thursday, May 24 unless you have made prior arrangements with your Residence Hall Coordinator/Hall Director. You will be billed if you fail to return these items to the designated location before you leave campus.

Keys/Access cards will not be accepted after the halls close.
If you fail to return your key or Access Card you will be charged $80.00 per key
and $18.00 per Access Card.

CLOSING CHECKLISTS

  • Reassemble all University furniture and place in its original location.
    Beds must be reassembled to the proper position, i.e. Rodney lofts should be in the original position, bunks should be debunked and inverted, and beds should be reassembled.

  • Replace screens, hang drapes and leave drapes open.

  • Remove all personal belongings. On Friday, May 25, Facilities Management Staff will begin removing all items in the residence halls. The University cannot store personal belongings or guarantee their security. You will be billed for removal or special clean-up of personal belongings.

  • Remove all posters and adhesive backed decorations from furniture, walls, ceilings and doors. Clean all surfaces. Remove poster putty from the wall after taking down pictures.

  • Thoroughly clean personal bathrooms and kitchens.

  • Return all lounge furniture to its proper location.

  • Clean room furniture. Remove any personal carpet or carpet tape and sweep the floor.

  • Please bag trash and take it to the dumpsters located throughout each complex. Please recycle as appropriate.

  • Leave your air conditioning unit on a medium setting (where applicable). When ready to leave, close and lock windows, lock your room and

ROOM/APARTMENT CONDITION

The final check-out service provided by Residence Life staff is extremely important to you for both financial and for convenience reasons. Each RA will conduct a pre-closing meeting to provide specific instructions. Please attend!
To prevent damage billing or trash removal charges you must see an RA prior to your departure to have your room inspected.

Facilities Management staff makes final billing decisions for damage or trash removal in individual rooms and apartments. Billing for common areas such as bathrooms, hallways, lounges, etc. will be equally divided among residents if the parties responsible are not identified. Billing will be sent out during the summer.

REFRIGERATORS AND MICROWAVE RENTALS

If you have rented a refrigerator, microwave or combo unit, please leave it in your room.

If you have moved or transferred the unit please contact Campus Specialties at service@campusspec.com; otherwise a fee may be assessed. If the unit cannot be found, you will be billed for a replacement unit.

Units will be picked up after buildings have been closed.

The unit should be ready by 8:00am that day; you do not need to be present.
To avoid additional cleaning/damage charges, units must be:

  1. Left inside your room: Placed unit in the middle of the room away from personal property.
  2. Have no personal items on or in the equipment (stereo equipment, books, stickers, magnets, food).
  3. Fully defrosted: (defrosting takes 24 hours) Do not use any sharp objects to defrost the unit. Empty the drip tray under the freezer compartment.
  4. Completely clean and dry: This includes seals and inside/outside surfaces of the refrigerator, freezer and microwave.
  5. Returned with all parts: Ice cube trays, shelves, microwave plate and ring.
  6. Left with the refrigerator and freezer doors open.

Failure To Comply With Any Of The Above Criteria Will Be
Reasonable Cause To Charge A $25 Cleaning Fee.

MAIL

United States Mail will be delivered to the residence halls through
Thursday, May 24.

The University will forward First-Class mail delivered after that date to the permanent address you have on file at the Registrar's Office. If the permanent address listed for you at the Registrar's Office is not current, you should make arrangements to update it as soon as possible. You can do this by submitting a change of address form at the Student Services Building, by using UDSIS on the web or by calling Pat Shields at 831-2727. Campus Mail cannot forward newspapers, magazines, and periodicals. If you wish to receive them during the summer, please notify the publishers of your summer address.

If you are not returning to the University of Delaware next Fall, please forward

PARKING, LOADING AND UNLOADING

When loading and unloading vehicles, students should park at a paid meter or in a lot for which they have a permit. If you must be in a fire lane or driveway, a licensed driver is required to be with the vehicle at all times.
