Testimonials

The World Class coaching and programs gave Kim and I the skills and confidence that lead to the Olympics. But more importantly Ron Ludington and those in the program taught me the leadership skills that have carried my life beyond the Olympics. The skills learned both on and off the ice allow me to speak and be confident in dealing with people and companies from around the World and have helped me to have success after skating.

The University of Delaware has provided a center that promotes excellence in the sport of Figure Skating.  Under the Directorship of Ron Ludington and his outstanding staff, the U of D is the Mecca for Worldclass training in the United States.

In addition to the development of skaters and coaches, the University of Delaware has also provided education and training for the top Judges and Officials of the United States Figure Skating Association.  It has been an invaluable resource to me and has been a major factor in attaining the level of National Judges and Referee.

In looking what is going on today, I feel that the future remains bright for the University of Delaware, and it’s outstanding coaches and skaters.

Bill Fitzpatrick-US Figure Skating National Referee and National Judge

Training at the University of Delaware from 1996-2006 gave us the competitive edge needed to succeed in this sport.   Having competed in the 2002 Olympic Games, 10 National Championships, and 4 World Championships, we were very fortunate to train at UD during the height of our competitive career.

The University of Delaware High Performance Figure Skating Center is a world-class training facility with everything a skater needs to compete at any level from beginner to elite.  From top quality coaching, to numerous on-ice sessions, off ice strength and conditioning, and off ice dance, Philip and I fully utilized everything the University of DE High Performance Figure Skating Center has to offer.  This combined with hard work and discipline was instrumental in our competitive success.

I still look back fondly on the years I spent as a student and an athlete at the University of Delaware.  The skating program provided me with a supportive enviorment and the ability to tailor my experience in skating and academics to my goals.  I was able to continue competing in singles – through the senior level, and at the same time compete on the University of Delaware’s collegiate synchronized skating team.  In addition to just training and competing, I learned incredible leadership, communication and business skills by serving as the student vice-president of the synchronized skating team.

The arena being right on campus, with a flexible ice-time schedule, also allwed me to have a full, well rounded education and a traditional “University experience”.  Going back-and-forth throughout the day between classes, free skating practice, synchro practice, off-ice training and dorm life really helped me  keep a healthy balance and perspective, learn time management, discipline and organizational skills that I’m still using more than a decade after graduation. It is one of the only places that doesn’t require a compromise in either training or education to be successful.

I really appreciate the experience I had skating at the University of Delaware, and the way that you can find support in however you choose to persue skating.  My professional life, since graduating from college, has been completely shaped by the opportunities I was afforded as a both a skater and as a student.

Kelly Hodge U.S. Figure Skating, Senior Director of Athlete Development

Since 2004 a selection of our skaters including many members of the National Italian Team has joined the University of Delaware figure skating center for summer training. It has always been a very rewarding experience in all aspects of our sport. The great professional level of coaching and the postive enviornment atmosphere is what our skaters really like at UD. They always learn a lot and bring home lots of progresses and new friends.

Franca Bianconi-Sesto Ice Skate Head Coach and Director

I have watched my daughters glide through the beginner and free style programs and develop skills of commitment to and respect for this beautiful sport.  Our coaches are remarkable and dedicated and have inspired and encouraged us to persue our dreams.
