Learn To Skate Winter Series

Starts January 5, 2016

Class Level and Progression Information

Age Class
Ages 5 and younger Snowplow Sam 1-3 Learn to dip and march in place, marching while moving, beginning two foot glide, backward wiggles, forward and backward swizzles and snowplow stop.
Ages 6 and older Basic 1-8
Basic 1 Sit on ice and stand up, march forward across the ice, forward two-foot glide, dip, forward swizzles, backward wiggles, snowplow stop, rocking horse, and two-foot hop in place.
Basic 2 Forward one-foot glides, backward two-foot glide, backward swizzles, two-foot turn from forward to backward in place, moving snowplow stop, forward alternating half swizzle pumps in a straight line
Basic 3 Forward stroking, forward half swizzle pumps on a circle, moving forward to backward two-foot turn, backward one-foot glides, forward slalom, two-foot spin.
Basic 4 Forward outside edges on a circle, forward inside edges on a circle, forward crossovers, forward outside three-turns, backward half swizzle pumps on a circle, backward stroking, backward snowplow stop.
Basic 5 Backward outside edges on a circle, backward inside edges on a circle, backward crossovers, beginning one-foot spin, hockey stop, side toe hop.
Basic 6 Forward inside three-turns, moving backward to forward two-foot turns on a circle, T-stop, bunny hop, forward arabesque/spiral, forward lunge
Basic 7 Forward inside open Mohawk, backward outside edge to forward outside edge transition, ballet jump, backward crossovers to a backward outside edge glide (landing position), forward inside pivots.
Basic 8 Moving forward outside three-turns, moving forward inside three-turns, combination move (2 forward crossovers, inside Mohawk, cross behind, step into a backward crossover, and step forward to an inside edge), one-foot upright spin, waltz jump, mazurka

Winter Series are all 6 weeks, first 30 minutes is group lesson followed by 30 minutes of practice.

Registration Fee:

Payment received on line or at the Fred Rust Ice Arena informational window before January 4, 2016 for the Winter I or before February 21, 2016 for the Winter II Series.

$100 each skater, $95 each additional family member

Week of Class Registration Fee:

Payment received on line or at the Fred Rust Ice Arena informational window on or after the dates listed below:

Winter I: January 4, 2016, $120 each skater, $115 each additional family member

Winter II: February 22, 2016, $120 each skater, $115 each additional family member

Skate Rental

Skate rental is available for an additional cost of $3 per rental. For those who are using their own skates, make sure they are sharpened before the first class. A skate rental card, which is good for 10 skate rentals, can be purchased for $30.


Parent Skate

The parent skate option is for the parent or legal guardian of those enrolled in class. This allows a parent to skate on the half-hour practice following classes. Parent skate is highly recommended for young skaters and is a lot of fun!
$30 per parent, per series.

Registration

There are three ways to register for the Learn To Skate program.

1. Online registration using our secure.
    Register up to three skaters per form. Click Here

    Registration for Ballet is done in person at the Information window in the Fred Rust Ice Arena

Ballet is $70, (each series) 10:45am Saturday mornings

2. Call (302) 831-2868 to have a registration form mailed to you.

3. Visit the Fred Rust Ice Arena Information Window and register in person.
    Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
