Radioactive Waste Management

The University of Delaware has developed a Radioactive Waste Management program to assure that proper handling and disposal procedures are used to protect the health and safety of the University community and to be in compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations. Research labs generate waste contaminated with various radionuclides such as tritium, carbon-14, phosphorus-32, and sulfur-35. Four radioactive waste forms are generated: solid items (e.g. pipet tips, tubes, gloves, bench paper), liquids, animal tissue, and vials containing liquid scintillation fluid
