Pathways to a Degree in Nursing

Your choice • Your Path • Your UD

There are several ways you can pursue a nursing degree from the University of Delaware. We make it easy for you to choose the pathway that is right for you.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 6 percent from 2023 to 2033, faster than the average for all occupations.

Within six months of graduating with a UD nursing degree, 98% of alumni are employed or pursuing a graduate degree.

Graduates of the class of 2023 are working in hospitals, clinics and healthcare settings in 47 states in the U.S. (and Washington D.C.) and 29 other countries.

The Flex Pathway

Associate in Arts (AA) --> Registered Nurse (RN)

University of Delaware partners with Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, DE to support students in obtaining both an associate degree and professional nursing licensure as a registered nurse (RN). Students enroll in three years of coursework and participate in clinical rotations to obtain both an Associate in Arts degree and the skills necessary to take the NCLEX exam.

Students who enroll in this flexible pathway can begin their studies at their own pace. Coursework for this Associate in Arts degree is offered at UD sites in Dover, Georgetown and Lewes.

Delawareans enrolling in the Flex pathway can use SEED Scholarship funding for University of Delaware coursework in the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer semesters. Clinical coursework is not covered by the SEED Scholarship.

Take classes during the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer to prepare for Clinicals during your second year.

Take University of Delaware classes while also completing clinicals at Beebe Healthcare.

Finish coursework with Margaret H. Rollings School of Nursing, and earn an Associate Degree at the University of Delaware, and take your NCLEX for nursing licensure.

The Global Pathway

Due to the timeline for clinical experiences, students who are pursuing their bachelor of science degree program in Nursing are not eligible for World Scholars.

However, many nursing students take advantage of UD's extensive study abroad programs during Winter Session.

Current study abroad programs for nursing are held in Ireland, Italy, Australia, Spain and the British Virgin Islands.
