Pathways to a Degree in Education

Whether you’re thinking about a degree in education or looking for additional certification for your existing career, at the University of Delaware, you can get the credentials you need to educate future generations.

The Traditional Pathway
From teaching toddlers to teenagers, UD has more than 24 different specializations from which you can choose to kickstart your degree in education.
Apply directly to a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, K-8 Teacher Education or one of our secondary education programs via the UD Application, Common Application or Coalition application.
To apply to these programs, students will need:
- An application to University of Delaware (udel.edu/applytoday)
- A self reported academic record (SRAR)
- Letter(s) of recommendation (optional)
- ACT or SAT (optional)
Accelerate Your Education
The University of Delaware offers numerous 4+1 programs that allow you to earn your master’s degree and your bachelor’s degree in only five years!
The Flex Pathway
(Associate in Arts in Early Childhood Education, Associate in Arts in K-8 Teacher Education, Associate in Arts)
Whether you are a current practitioner hoping to complete coursework for a certification or a recent high school graduate wanting to complete an associate degree on the way to a bachelor’s degree, these flexible educational pathways allow you to begin your studies at your own pace, at a University of Delaware site near you. Delawareans enrolling in the flex pathway can use SEED Scholarship funding for coursework in the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer semesters.
- Associate in Arts in Early Childhood Education
- Associate in Arts in K-8 Teacher Education
- Associate in Arts (Preparation for Secondary Education degree in a specialized topic area)
Current Practitioners
If you are a current professional and don’t have access to a high school transcript, you can still apply to UD via our Professional & Continuing Studies program. This program allows you to take courses toward a degree before fully enrolling in a program. Contact an adviser at access-advise@udel.edu.
The Global Pathway
(World Scholars)
Through the World Scholars Program, students in select education bachelor’s degree programs can start their degree program with other Blue Hens in Athens, Auckland, Madrid or Rome, and transition seamlessly to UD’s Newark campus after their first semester.
