Possible topics include sexually transmitted infections, holistic wellness, stress management, along with other fun and interactive educational experiences.

Are you looking for Outside-the-Classroom Activities?
Encourage your students to expand their knowledge by participating in educational opportunities outside of the classroom.
Wellspring Events as Extra Credit: Throughout the semester some of your students may ask for ways to earn extra credit. Through attending and participating in Wellspring events, students gain an educational experience focused on student wellness directly applicable to their lives and possibly applicable to your subject matter. Asking students to write a paragraph or provide a handout from the event can be a time-saving way for you to offer extra credit to interested students; and it allows students to further explore what they gained through experiential learning. See our list of upcoming Wellspring events at the bottom of this and every page on our website. Call Wellspring if you wish to plan further in advance and would like to be provided with a longer range of planned events.
If you do not find what you are looking for, Wellspring staff are happy to collaborate with you in order to design opportunities for presentations in your class or outside-the-classroom learning that will meet the needs of your students and your curriculum.
Volunteer Opportunities for Students: There is a wide range of volunteer opportunities for students interested in helping other students and learning more about their own health and wellness.
- POW! Promoters of Wellness (Pow!) -- is a peer education organization whose members seek to promote better nutrition, safer sex, positive body image, enhanced fitness and stress management on campus. Members conduct outreach and also provide interactive educational programming.
- V8 presents OPT 4 -- Opt 4 is a student organization formed to facilitate fun and safe alternatives to drinking and drug use. Students who don’t want to sit at home alone but who don’t want to go out to parties where drinking is the main event, can join Opt 4 and be part of a proactive, fun and safe alternative. Opt 4 offers fun, educational programs on alcohol & drugs.
- SOS Sexual Offense Support (SOS) -- is a volunteer organization that provides services for survivors of all forms of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. Volunteers receive training to provide support, information, referral, & advocacy to victims, and to provide educational & prevention-oriented programs on relevant topics for the UD community.
- Internships -- Wellspring offers opportunities for undergraduate internships and graduate-level assistantships. Encourage your students to contact Wellspring if they are interested in an internship focused around promoting student health and wellness. Wellspring staff will work with your student to create an internship opportunity that will meet your academic requirements and their learning interests.
Wellness Assessments: Students can schedule appointments for FREE screenings and health self-check-ups. These face-to-face appointments will allow a student to speak with a counselor and receive feedback about the wellness issues most concerning to them, including alcohol and drug use, healthy sexuality, body image and disordered eating, stress or smoking cessation. Students can also participate in E-CHUG, an interactive, online alcohol assessment where they will receive personalized feedback about their drinking, in language students can relate to.
Support Groups for Students: Wellspring offers two support groups for students: Substance Abuse Support Group and Sexual Assault Survivors Support Group. These groups are designed to offer support and feedback for students dealing with these difficult issues. Students are encouraged to contact Wellspring at 302-831-3457 in order to talk with a counselor and see if participating in group is right for them.
Wellness-related Student Projects: If your student(s) choose to do a wellness-related project or presentation, encourage them to contact Wellspring. Our staff members would be happy to schedule an appointment with a student in order to help him or her and to provide resources and support when possible. Students can contact Wellspring at 831-3547 to schedule an information appointment.

Project Impact: My Relationships, My World (Part One)
Trabant MPR C

By modeling healthy attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that promote respect, equality, and a culture of non-violence you are leading by example! Your influence can have a resounding impact on your peers and your relationships with them. This program will help you develop the skills you need to understand dating violence, model respect and equity, as well as provide you with resources helpful to those affected by abusive relationships. Experts in the field will provide an interactive and informative approach to help you identify ways you can make a positive difference – here at UD and beyond. *Note: You do not have to attend Part One to attend Part Two. Sponsored by Wellspring: Student Wellness Program and the Prevention Subcommittee, a joint subcommittee of the Delaware Victims Rights Task Force and the Domestic Violence Task Force of Delaware. This program counts as part of the Blue Hen Leadership Program. Contact Susan Luchey to register your attendance at this program or to register for BHLP.
Film: "Miss Representation"
Trabant Theatre
A documentary by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, premiered at 2011 Sundance Film Festival and aired on Oprah Winfrey Network, looks at the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence. It exposes how American youth are being sold the concept that women and girls’ value lies in their youth, beauty, sexuality, and appearance rather than their intelligence. Following the film will be a speaker who will share her personal struggle with an eating disorder. Sponsored by National Eating Disorders Awareness Council, for National Eating Disorders Awareness Week and the Blue Hen Leadership Program, and co-sponsored by S.O.S. and Wellspring.
Project Impact: My Relationships, My World (Part Two)
Trabant MPR C
What message are you sending with your event flyers, Facebook events, and other marketing materials? Your publicity tells individuals more than the date, time and location of your event. Your flyers can tell a person what your organization/event stands for, values, and promotes. This program will help you understand how marketers sell certain messages through their products and how to deconstruct those messages. You will also develop the skills needed to create publicity that promotes equality, respect, and healthy relationships.
21st Annual Crime Victims' Tribute with Guest Speaker Kathleen Bonistall
Bus leaves from Trabant Univ Ctr at 5:30pm. Event takes place at the Dover Sheraton, 1570 North Dupont highway, Dover, DE 19901
The 21rst Annual Crime Victims’ Tribute is part of Delaware’s recognition of National Crime Victims Rights Week, April 22-28, 2012. The Tribute honors crime victims who have died and those who continue to struggle daily with the aftermath of their own or a loved one’s victimization. There are many displays such as the memorial wall filled with artwork, poems and letters written by victims, survivors and friends, and other displays in which victims are able to openly express their thoughts and feelings. Participants can bring their own letters or art pieces to add to the displays. Victims’ advocates throughout the state display resource materials to assist victims in their healing journey. This year’s speaker is Kathleen Bonistall, mother of UD student Lindsay Bonistall who was raped and murdered in her off-campus apartment in May 2005. The Bonistall family founded PEACE OUTside Campus, the Lindsay Bonistall Foundation to promote peaceful, safe living environments off-campus. Mrs. Bonistall will talk about how the crime has impacted her life and share a message of hope for all victims, survivors, advocates and law enforcement. Part of UD's Sexual Assault Awareness Month. FREE BUS provided by Student Activities & Programs will leave Trabant at 5:30pm but you must REGISTER to RIDE.
