April 13: Roundtable on authentic learning

Learn how to create authentic learning experiences with community engagement opportunities

The University of Delaware First Friday Roundtable series will hold its April session from 3:30-5 p.m., Friday, April 13, in room 208 Gore Hall. These monthly discussion sessions provide an opportunity for all who teach at the University to explore teaching, learning and assessment practices and issues.

This roundtable will focus on authentic learning in the context of community engagement.  Educators have long focused on the power of authentic learning in courses with assignments that require students to engage in complex tasks that are directly tied to real-world contexts.  One powerful way to integrate authentic learning in a course is to work with community partners to have students solve real-world problems that those partners face.

Faculty and staff in UD's Community Engagement Initiative are experts in connecting faculty and students with community partners and supporting their collaboration.

In this workshop, Lynnette Overby and Sue Serra will assist attendees in exploring the power and possibility of community engagement that can enhance coursework. Attendees will learn about the resources that UD provides to support partnerships and work with UD's community engagement experts to incorporate community engagement into their own courses. Those attending are encouraged to bring a syllabus or course outline to use in this discussion about incorporating community engagement content.

Registration is required and may be completed online.
