April 11: Retirement discussion with Margaret Andersen

Program set for faculty considering retirement

For University of Delaware faculty members considering retirement, the Faculty Achievement Program will present a discussion on the topic in April with Margaret L. Andersen, Edward F. and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor Emerita of Sociology.

The discussion will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, in the Faculty Commons sandbox, 116 Pearson Hall.

The program is designed for those who may be thinking of retirement but don’t quite know how to approach this new phase of life. Among questions to consider are “How do you imagine your daily life in retirement?,” “Is there something special you want to accomplish without the pressures of your current work?,” “Do you have  specific fears about retiring?” and “What personal, institutional and  financial resources will you have in retirement?”

Andersen, who retired two years ago, recently led a webinar titled “So You’re Thinking of Retiring? Imagining Life Beyond the Academy” for the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity. That program was designed to help faculty set personal and professional goals for this new time of life.
