Center for Global Health to offer 2018 travel program to Italy

The University of Delaware Center for Global Health is offering a 2018 travel program to Italy. The program is open to all of the University adult community as well as friends, family and alumni. There are 42 open seats on this program.

“This is a premier travel program opportunity with goals to explore global health concepts as we travel to places that lifestyle and culture play an integral role in health of the people,” explained Amy Johnson, director of the Center for Global Health.

The first program “Un’avventura Sana” (A Healthy Adventure) takes place from from Sept. 12 to 21, which will explore Rome, Florence, Capri, the Amalfi Coast and Siena. Travelers will get a literal and figurative taste of the lifestyle. From walks around breathtaking countryside and heartwarming villages to art, architecture and culture that formed much of the western art and modern culture. All of this accented by Italian cuisine rich with fresh vegetables, fruit, whole grains and heart-healthy fats, particularly olive oil and omega-3s from fish.

The program opens with a welcome reception that will include UD alumni living in Italy. Trip highlights include touring Capri and the Amalfi Coast, cooking class at the Villa Pandolfini Estate in Tuscany, a vineyard tour, visiting the Vatican and experiencing the Papal Audience.

“The program focus is that Italy ranks No. 3 in the world for best health, which is due, in part, to diet and lifestyle. This program will explore both aspects,” Johnson said.

The per-person cost is 2,850 euros ($3,537.80 based on exchanges rates on Feb. 16) is based on double occupancy and includes hotel accommodations, transportation to group activities, breakfasts, several dinners, cooking class and excursion activities. Airfare is not included. The registration process is entirely online. Visit the Center for Global Health site for the complete itinerary, application and payment information.
