Honors

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry held a special colloquium on Tuesday, April 10, in honor of Burnaby Munson and his 50 years of educating thousands of UD students. The distinguished lecturer was Prof. R. Graham Cooks of Purdue University, who spoke about mass spectrometry, a field on which Munson’s own research has had an important impact. Munson, the C. Eugene Bennett Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has retired after teaching his final class last year. He “leaves behind a legacy of educational excellence and a cadre of students, both undergraduate and graduate, who have, through coaxing, cajoling, threatening and patience, developed an appreciation for chemistry and its place in the world,” Prof. Cecil Dybowski wrote in the latest issue of the newsletter Blue Hen Chemist.

The Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware has been awarded Marriott Select Brands' Silver Circle Award for performance in the top 20 percent of all Courtyard hotels. The honor is given for guest satisfaction, based on their intent to recommend. The Courtyard Newark has been awarded a Guest Satisfaction Award every year since it opened in 2004.
