UD senior Jeremy Ake named CAA baseball player of week

For the fifth time this season a University of Delaware baseball player has earned Colonial Athletic Association player or pitcher of the week honors, as senior infielder Jeremy Ake has been named the conference player of the week.

Ake is the fourth different Blue Hen to win a CAA player or pitcher of the week award this season, joining Nick Patten, Brandon Walter and Brian Mayer.

The infielder batted .545 (6-11) with three doubles, a home run, four runs scored and seven RBI this weekend. The performance propelled UD to a three-game sweep of Towson that clinched the Hens a CAA tournament berth.

The senior contributed at least one hit and scored one run in all three contests. In Friday's nightcap, Ake went 3-4 with two doubles, a homer and six RBI. Ake currently ranks second in the CAA with a .358 batting average. Over the three-game span he had a .615 on-base percentage and slugged 1.091.

He shares this week's awards with College of Charleston junior Bailey Ober (pitcher of the week) and Elon's Kyle Brnovich (rookie of the week).

UD concludes regular season play at home on Thursday, Friday and Saturday against Charleston.
