UD Football breaks school record with 35 players on CAA Academic All-Conference Team

For the third straight year, the University of Delaware football squad has placed a record number of student-athletes on the Colonial Athletic Association Football Academic All-Conference team.

Delaware placed 35 student-athletes on this year’s squad, surpassing the record of 30 set in 2015, which had broken the previous mark of 28 in 2014.

The 35 Blue Hens -- nearly 40 percent of the team’s roster -- were among the 388 student-athletes who were honored among the 12 schools. To be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors, student-athletes must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

All 12 CAA Football schools had at least 19 players receive Academic All-Conference accolades. There were 24 players who made both the all-conference team and the academic all-conference squad, including Delaware’s Troy Reeder.

“We are certainly excited to be so well represented on the CAA Academic All-Conference team,” said Delaware head coach Danny Rocco. “Academic success is at the core of our mission, and our goals will always center around being outstanding not only on the field and in the community but in the classroom as well. Awards like this validate our commitment to academic excellence, and we are proud of these student-athletes and the hard work they have put in to be successful in this area.”

Delaware will open spring drills on Tuesday, April 4, and will have 14 practice days leading up to the annual Blue-White Spring Game and Fandemonium VIII on Saturday, May 6, beginning at 4 p.m.
