A free-of-charge “Conflict Music” event featuring many of the guest artists in the University of Delaware Master Players Concert Series iMusic X presentation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 2, in Bayard Sharp Hall.

The artists will be featured in a zero-distance conversation with a small audience about their experience of making music with musicians from a conflicting state or region. Sign-up is required.

In addition to the conversation, the artists will also demonstrate their musical instruments as a special preview of the March 4 iMusic X concert. During these presentations, hors d’oeuvres from the regions or countries of the guest artists will be served.

Featured artists will include Xiang Gao, Trustees Distinguished Professor of Music, Chinese virtuoso violinist and member of the UD ensemble-in-residence 6ixwire; Wu Tong, the Grammy-winning Sheng (Chinese mouth organ) master and folk singer of China Magpie and Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble; award-winning Israeli percussionist and conductor Chen Zimbalista; Afghani guitarist and multi-instrumentalist E. Shawn Qaissaunee; and Syrian visual artist and iMusic set designer Emad (Jano) Hemede.

iMusic X

After nine years of successfully creating and producing iMusic events, creator Gao and his invited guest artists from many countries and traditions will celebrate this popular series in a concert featuring interdisciplinary music making with a focus on world music promoting unity, diversity, cultural understanding and exchange.

iMusic concerts feature cutting edge visual and audio technology, leading musicians in rare genres and non-musician artist collaborators, as well as forward-looking ideas in music presentation that transform the way live music is experienced.

Tong, who will be featured in iMusic X, is a guest artist of the UD Artist-in-Residence Program under the direction of Colin Miller.
