University Facilities monitoring unseasonably warm weather
This weekend will bring several days of unseasonably warm weather to the University of Delaware campus.
In cooperation with Environmental Health and Safety, Residence Life and Housing and the University’s Sustainability group, Facilities will keep HVAC equipment in winter mode and make energy-conscious accommodations such as turning off heating sources.
The University’s heating and cooling systems are complex and integrated, which means changeover takes a significant amount of time and resources. During winter warm spells, cold weather is likely to return before the system can switch back to heating. Therefore, changeover is only done once per season.
Facilities continually monitors nighttime low temperatures and extended weather forecasts to ensure that adequate heating is available when needed. Long-range forecasts will determine when the final changeover is made.
If a campus system is continually running heat or has other maintenance issues, report it to Facilities at 831-1141 or through the online Fixit form.
