Provost's Commission schedules sessions for tenured, tenure-track faculty

The University of Delaware Provost’s Commission on Tenure-Track Faculty will hold two additional listening sessions this week and next for tenured and tenure-track faculty members at associate and full professor rank.

The purpose of these sessions is for members of the commission to hear faculty input regarding the commission’s charge. The listening sessions are being held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Fridays in 116 Gore Hall on the following dates:

March 3: Associate Professors

March 10: Full Professors

A session for assistant professors was held Feb. 24.

At the September 2016 Faculty Senate meeting, Provost Domenico Grasso announced the membership and charge for the Provost’s Commission on Tenure-Track Faculty. The plan to form this commission was first announced by the provost at the May 2016 Faculty Senate meeting, with the approval of the Senate Executive Committee.

The commission’s charge is

1. To define more completely and explicitly the purposes and roles of tenure-track faculty members as an essential part of the mission of the University of Delaware to include but not limited to instruction, scholarship and service.

2. To recommend guidelines for hiring and promotion of tenure-track faculty, with clear emphasis on the pursuit of excellence.

3. To recommend guidelines for evaluation of excellence in scholarship, teaching and service that accommodates academic disciplinary differences.

4.  To recommend guidelines for pre- and post-tenure mentoring and evaluation in order to create a sustained environment for continued excellence.

5. To develop resolutions for consideration by the Faculty Senate for matters involving changes to the UD Faculty Handbook.

The commission is co-chaired by Matt Kinservik, vice provost for faculty affairs, and Martha Buell, president-elect of the Faculty Senate. Commission members are Nii Attoh-Okine from the College of Engineering; George Luther from the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment; Chris Williams from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources; Stuart Binder McLeod from the College of Health Sciences; Robert Golinkoff from the College of Education and Human Development; Sheryl Kline from the Lerner College of Business and Economics; Arwen Mohun from the College of Arts and Sciences Humanities portfolio; Lynnette Overby from the College of Arts and Sciences Arts portfolio; David Redlawsk from the College of Arts and Sciences Social Sciences portfolio; Joe Fox, from the College of Arts and Sciences Natural Sciences portfolio; and Pam Cook from UD ADVANCE
