Center for Study of Diversity announces faculty research grant recipients

The University of Delaware Center for the Study of Diversity has announced the recipients of its faculty diversity research grants for 2017.

The center, part of the College of Arts and Sciences, offers small grants each year to support faculty research, analysis and public scholarship projects in a wide range of disciplines, including the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

In 2017, the center sought proposals that focused on some aspect of the campus climate for diversity in the context of the University of Delaware.

It encouraged scholars to make connections between their proposals and specific aspects of campus climate mentioned in the "Inclusive Excellence: Action Plan for Diversity at UD" and/or President Assanis' strategic principle of "Building an Environment of Inclusive Excellence."

The 2017 faculty grant recipients and their project titles are:

• Ryan Beveridge, associate professor of psychological and brain sciences, "Inaugural Conference Focused on Engaging Diverse Students in Clinical Science Graduate Studies at UD: A Pilot";

• Jenni Buckley, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, "Assessment of Student Culture for Women and URGs in the UD College of Engineering"; and

• Elizabeth Soslau, assistant professor of education, "Re-thinking the Student Teaching Curriculum: Noting and Addressing Bias in the Classroom."
