May 9: 2017 Faculty Lecture

Erica Armstrong Dunbar to discuss recent book ‘Never Caught’

The 2017 Faculty Lecture sponsored by the University of Delaware Library Associates will be held at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, in the Reading Room on the first floor of the Morris Library.

The featured speaker will be Erica Armstrong Dunbar, who holds a joint appointment as Blue and Gold Distinguished professor of Black American Studies and professor in the department of history. Dunbar will speak on her recent book, Never Caught: The Washingtons’ Relentless Pursuit of Their Runaway Slave, Ona Judge. A reception will follow the program. The event is open to the public.

Dunbar is the 2016 winner of the Lorraine A. Williams Leadership Award from the Association of Black Women Historians. She has participated in several documentaries, including Philadelphia: The Great Experiment and The Abolitionists, an American Experience production on PBS. Dunbar was appointed the first director of the Program in African American History at the Library Company of Philadelphia in 2011; has been the recipient of Ford, Mellon and SSRC fellowships; and has been named Distinguished Lecturer of the Organization of American Historians.

The book, Never Caught: The Washingtons’ Relentless Pursuit of Their Runaway Slave, Ona Judge, will be available for purchase for the estimated price of $23 each from the Barnes and Noble University of Delaware Bookstore both before and after her presentation. Dunbar is willing to sign copies of her book during the reception.
