Blue Hens finish sixth, Oliveri seventh in CAA men's golf championship

The University of Delaware men’s golf team finished in sixth place and Blue Hen senior Marc Oliveri placed seventh as UD concluded its 2016-17 season this weekend at the Colonial Athletic Association championship.

UD fired its third consecutive sub-300 round during the completion of the tournament’s third round on Sunday morning with a 295 score, finishing sixth out of nine teams with an 874 three-round total. The College of Charleston claimed the team title with an 841 score to secure a bid to the NCAA Regionals, while the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) finished in second place at 854.

Oliveri carded a two over par 74 during his final round on the par 72, 7,035-yard Monacan front nine and Buckingham back nine at Salisbury Country Club in Midlothian, Virginia, finishing in seventh place in the individual standings with a three under par 71-68-74-213.

Jack Gianniny shot a one over par 73 on Sunday, as he tied for 18th place with a two over par score of 70-75-73-218. Kieran Purcell, who carded a 76 during his final round, finished in 31st place at 74-72-76-222, six over par.

Bobby Diforio fired an eight over par 75-74-75-224 for the weekend to finish in 33rd place while Mark Benevento, who tied Gianniny for the lowest round of the day by a Blue Hen with a 73, tied for 36th place with a 12 over par 75-80-73-228.

Parker Derby of Charleston was the tournament medalist with an eight under par 66-70-72-208, while Reese McFarlane of UNCW finished one shot back.
