UD's Becky Gohsler named CAA women's lacrosse player of week
The University of Delaware's Becky Gohsler has collected her second career Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse player of the week honor.
The junior helped the Blue Hens to a 1-1 week, including an upset over No. 14/16 James Madison, with six goals, two assists, seven draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
In Sunday’s 15-12 win over the Dukes, Gohsler registered her seventh hat trick of the season and tied a career-high with six points with four goals and two assists. She added four draw controls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Against No. 20/17 Towson on Friday, Gohsler struck for two goals to go along with three draw controls and two ground balls.
The midfielder currently leads UD (8-7 overall, 3-2 CAA) with 39 points (31 goals and 8 assists) and 23 caused turnovers. Her career mark of 94 draw controls is good for fourth in Blue Hens program history.
Towson’s Angie Benson was tabbed the conference defensive player of the week while Elon’s Melissa Birdsell garnered rookie of the week accolades.
The Hens wrap regular season action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. draw at Drexel. A win will guarantee UD a spot in the upcoming CAA tournament.
