The University of Delaware women’s golf team fired its second consecutive 295 score on Sunday, April 16, as the Blue Hens cruised to an 11-shot victory to successfully defend their Colonial Athletic Association championship and secure another trip to the NCAA Regionals.

UD entered the day with a slim two-shot lead but steadily pulled away by posting the lowest team score of the tournament for the second straight round.

The Blue Hens, who won their first conference crown a year ago with an eight-shot victory over the College of Charleston, carded a three-round total of 306-295-295-896 to win by 11 strokes this year. Charleston again finished in second place with a 907 score, while the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) placed third with a 908 total.

James Madison finished in fourth place at 915, followed by Towson (924), William and Mary (931), Elon (937) and Hofstra (1,004).

UD freshman Ariane Klotz recorded the lowest round of her career, and the lowest round of the day, with a two under par 70 on the par 72, 6,113-yard Blue Heron Course at Ford’s Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, Virginia, finishing in third place in the individual standings with a two over par 76-72-70-218. Klotz birdied the third, seventh and 16th holes while adding 14 pars during her final round, with her only bogey of the day coming on the final hole.

“It’s so great to get the win, and we are really enjoying it,” Klotz said. “We love each other and pull for each other, and it really shows on the course. I’ve been playing really well lately and just needed to make some putts today, which is what I was able to do.”

Lyberty Anderson of UNCW claimed the individual title with an even par 70-72-74-216 and will also head to the NCAA Regionals, while Laura Fuenfstueck of Charleston finished one shot back with a one over par 71-74-72-217.

UD’s Ashley Dingman fired a three over par 75 during her final round, as she finished in eighth place with a nine over par 74-76-75-225. Dingman, who posted birdies on the second and eighth holes, recorded her lowest 54-hole total and notched her first career top 10 finish.

Vitoria Teixeira shot a four over par 76 on Sunday, tying for ninth place at the tournament with a 75-75-76-226, 10 over par. Teixeira fired birdies on the ninth and 11th holes while adding 10 pars, as she posted her fourth top 10 finish of the season.

Grace Chua carded a two over par 74 during her final round, as she tied for 13th place with a 14 over par 84-72-74-230. Chua birdied the third, seventh and eighth holes during an even par front nine, before adding seven pars on the back nine.

Valentina Mueller fired a four over par 76 during Sunday’s round, tying for 24th place with a 21 over par 81-80-76-237. Mueller recorded birdies on the eighth 12th and 14th holes, to go with nine pars on the afternoon.

“We played really solid all weekend, and I’m very proud of their efforts,” said Blue Hen head coach Patty Post, who has led the team to back-to-back conference titles. “It’s tough to enter the final round with the lead, but the girls exceeded my expectations and did a great job all day. The future is bright for this program; we’re doing all of the right things and just need to continue to work hard.”

The Blue Hens advance to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight year and will head to one of four regional sites on May 8-10: Athens, Georgia, Columbus, Ohio, Lubbock, Texas, or Albuquerque, New Mexico. The selection show will air on the Golf Channel on Thursday, April 27, at 11 a.m.
