May 12: Biomechanics Research Symposium

Meeting to feature ongoing research in cell/tissue and rehabilitation biomechanics

The Center for Biomechanical Engineering Research at the University of Delaware will hold the 14th annual Biomechanics Research Symposium at the STAR Campus from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, May 12.

Johnna Temenoff, professor in the Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University, will deliver the keynote lecture, “Characterizing Structural and Biochemical Changes to Joint Tissues During Rotator Cuff Injury.”

Temenoff, who is also co-director of the Regenerative Engineering and Medicine Center, will outline the timing of changes in proteolytic activity after tendon injury and discuss her group’s work on the development of biomaterials-based strategies to treat joint degeneration.

Student research will be organized into two tracks -- cell/tissue biomechanics and rehabilitation biomechanics -- and awards will be given to recognize outstanding podium and poster presentations. Work will represent a range of disciplines and departments across health sciences and engineering.

The deadline for abstracts for both poster and podium presentations is Monday, April 17.
