The University of Delaware Biden Institute will hold its inaugural event Friday, April 28, as some of the nation’s top thought and business leaders will gather on campus to discuss how corporate America’s primary focus on maximizing short-term profit has affected business, the economy and the middle class.

Entitled “Win-Win: How Taking the Long View Works for Business and the Middle Class,” the panel will explore the problems of short-termism and how policies that refocus businesses on long-term investments – in everything from research to employee training – would be good for the economy and the American people.

Former Vice President Joe Biden will moderate the panel, which will include

• Charles Elson, director of the Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance and Woolard Chair in Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware;

Jeff Sonnenfeld, associate dean of the Yale School of Management;

• Carsten Stendevad, senior fellow of Bridgewater Associates and former CEO of ATP;

• Kip Tindell, co-founder and chairman of The Container Store;

• Sarah Williamson, CEO of FCLT Global;

• Mark Wiseman, global head of active equities, BlackRock, and chairman of BlackRock Alternative Investors; and

Jeff Zients, former director of the National Economic Council and former CEO of Advisory Board Company.

University of Delaware President Dennis Assanis will open the event with welcoming remarks.

The panel discussion will begin at 12:30 p.m., April 28, in Mitchell Hall on the University’s Green. As of Monday, April 24, this event has reached its seating capacity. It willl be webcast live on UDLive.
