Safety through education

Safety Fest event teaches students safety in residence halls

When you can’t choose between surge protector or three-outlet adapter, who you gonna call? Nearly 80 University of Delaware students learned the answer to that question and many more when they attended Safety Fest on Tuesday, Sept. 27, on the Perkins Student Center patio.

Safety Fest is a collaborative event of Residence Life and Housing, UD Parking Services, Student Wellness and Health Promotion, UD S.O.S., the registered student organization Men’s Action Network and Environmental Health and Safety.

“We have incredible resources on campus that strive to create safe and healthy environments for our students,” said Katie Morrison, assistant director for student and community advocacy in Residence Life and Housing. “It’s important that students have the opportunity to engage with those campus stakeholders and learn about the services they have to offer.”

Students participated in fun safety-based games, including putting out digital fires, identifying the in-hall fire hazards and spinning the wellness wheel.

“Safety Fest is a fun opportunity for students to [connect with campus stakeholders],” Morrison said, “so they know where to turn if they have questions or concerns related to their safety while on campus.”
