Four faculty speakers to focus on election issues in fall semester series

As part of the University of Delaware College of Arts and Sciences' focus on the 2016 presidential election, a Political Communication Lecture Series will be held on four Wednesday evenings this semester.

The series, which is free and open to the public, will feature UD faculty members discussing issues related to the election. Talks will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in Room 120 Smith Hall on the University’s Newark campus.

The speakers and their topics are:

Sept. 14, Paul Brewer, professor of communication and of political science and international relations and research director of the Center for Political Communication, “Entertainment Media and the Presidential Election.”

Oct. 12, Jenny Lambe, associate professor of communication and a Center for Political Communication senior fellow, “The Problem of Hate Speech in the Election.”

Oct. 26, David Wilson, associate professor of political science and international relations and associate dean for the social sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, “Telling U What to Think About, When You Think about Issues: Priming, Framing, and Public Opinion.”

Nov. 30, Wayne Batchis, associate professor of political science and international relations, “Conservatism and Freedom of Speech.”
