'Creative Photography' series

Library offers sessions on digital cameras, composition, editing

The University of Delaware Library will offer three sessions in the “Creative Photography” workshop series in coming weeks.

In “Creative Photography I: Understanding Your Digital Camera” on Oct. 6, participants will learn how to go beyond their camera’s auto setting and understand how to use aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance to produce impressive results.

Photography is an art as well as a science, so in “Creative Photography II: Basics of Composition,” on Oct. 20, participants will build on the concepts from the “Understanding Your Digital Camera” workshop to take photos to the next level.

Participants will complete the photographic journey by attending “Creative Photography III: Basics of Editing” on Nov. 3. Having learned how their camera works in “Understanding Your Camera,” and how to take compelling photographs in the “Basics of Composition,” participants will complete their photographic journey by learning the essentials of photo processing using common software and apps.

This workshop will be an overview and hands-on session that will introduce participants to some of the most common adjustments photographers make, and the theory behind them. It is for those who have wondered about contrast, sharpness, color balance, tonality, or saturation.

Participants are encouraged to bring photos they would like to work on, as well as their smartphone, if they have one.

• “Creative Photography I: Understanding Your Digital Camera” will be offered by the UD Library from 2-3:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, in Room B of the Student Multimedia Design Center on the lower levels of the Morris Library. Presenter will be Hannah Lee, senior assistant librarian and program coordinator, Multimedia Literacy, Multimedia Collections and Services Department

• “Creative Photography II: Basics of Composition” will be offered from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, in Room B of the Student Multimedia Design Center. Lee will be the presenter.
